Ack

I'm in one of those moods again.

I get this way sometimes, not recently, though.

I'm depressed and hyper. I'm restless, but I don't want to *do* anything.

I can sit on this computer for hours -- literally hours -- looking for... somthing (peace of mind?). I have this feeling that if I just look hard enough I'll find it. Don't ask me what it is.

Oh, well. Just my latent OCD kicking in with a little bit of addictive personality on the side for flavor.

Guaranteed to Keep You Occupied for Hours

Or at least 10 minutes, anyway....

The 'I'm a Baad Blogger' Friday Random 10

Yeah, yeah. I know my blogging track record is abysmal. It's not like anyone is actually *reading* this, right?

1. Versus -- Yeah You
Another CMJ refugee. It's a pretty good song, though

2. Toxygene -- The Orb
Man, it's CMJ day! It's not like I have dozens and dozens of these CDs laying around from the past 10 years or anything... Anyway, I have another Toxygene song on another disc, called something like "Pure Bliss" or something. This one's pretty good, too.

3. Depeche Mode -- Policy of Truth
I just recently reacquired this CD after buying it when it came out, getting disillusioned with it and selling it. I bought it again ("Violator") via yourmusic.com because I thought it had "I Feel You" on it. It doesn't. Like everyone else, I liked this song when it came out, but now I think it's just okay.

4. XTC -- Scarecrow People
I originally had this album on a cassette tape I bought out of the bargain bin at my college bookstore. I can't remember why I bought it, but I fell in love with it ("Oranges & Lemons") and, subsequently, with XTC. This song isn't one of my favorites, but it's not bad.

5. A Tribe Called Quest -- Midnight
"Midnight Marauders" kind of finished off my Tribe love. I really, really liked their first album, liked most of their second album and liked a few songs on MM (this wasn't one of them). I didn't buy any more after that. As I listen to it again, though, I like it a lot more. I guess it was just ahead of its time; or I was behind mine. Now I think this song sounds pretty good; I could do without the 'interludes' though; they did not improve with age.

6. Beach Boys -- Surfer Girl
In high school, I went through an oldies phase where I discovered all those '60s bands everyone kept talking about, like The Beach Boys. I could never get into this song, though; too treacly and cheesy, even for '60s pop. I can still probably find that Beach Boys Greatest Hits on cassette tape I have knocking around.

7. XTC -- One of the Millions
See 4. This song *is* one of my favorites on the CD.

8. Marvin Gaye -- Got to Give it Up (Part 1)
If I had to make a list of the best songs ever made, this would definietely be on it. It really is that good.

9. Wyclef Jean -- Killer MC
Generally, I haate 'interludes' on rap albums. They're cute the first time, maybe. After that, they are just annoying. Most of the time. This one still holds up, though.

10. Peter Gabriel -- On the Air
I went through a PG phase in my college days. This is from "Revisited" a compilation of his earlier stuff (earlier than when exactly, I don't know). This is a pretty good song, I must admit.

Since the Wyclef interlude was only 35 seconds, I give you...

11. Paul Simon -- Slip Slidin' Away
Remember that list of great songs I talked about earlier? This one's definitely on it.

Elvis Costello Quote of the Day*

I used to be disgusted/but now I try to be amused/
Ever since their wings have gotten rusted/
The angels wanna wear my red shoes

But when they told me 'bout their side of the bargain/
That's when I knew that I could not refuse/
See, I won't get any older/
Now the angels wanna wear my red shoes

*I'm doing this from memory, so bear with me

The Nostalgia Edition of The Friday Random 10

1. Guy Forsyth -- Can You Live Without
'In times of trouble/we decide what we need/what we take with us/and what we leave'
This was one of the songs I listened to a lot right after 9/11. It was part of a mix, actually. Perhaps I'll tell you later what the other songs were. It's especially poignant for me personally for that reason, but it's also a very good song.

2. A Tribe Called Quest -- Buggin' Out
Ah, A Tribe Called Quest. It all seems so innocent now, and so far away. Tribe was one of the few rap acts that I could actually listen to for an entire album. They still hold up very well, IMHO.

3. Audra Kubat -- Georgia
Another CMJ disc refugee. There are so many songs on all my respective CMJ discs that there are always gems that I discover later that I have overlooked. Like this one.

4. Joan Osborne -- Lumina
I loved this CD (except for that painful god song). It's held up pretty well over the years. This is a nice song; not one of the best on the disc, but not bad by any stretch of the imagination.

5. Elvis Costello -- Alison
Everyone's favorite Elvis Costello song. I wouldn't say it's my favorite, but it's definitely my *first* Elvis Costello song, and that's got to count for something. Plus, it's held up amazingly well. It's really a very good song. He doesn't really shoot her in the end, does he?

6. Dionne Warwick -- Say a Little Prayer
I'll admit it. I 'discovered' this song along with everyone else of my generation -- after seeing "My Best Friend's Wedding." My fav DW song is still "Do You Know the Way to San Jose," but this one's still very good.

7. Neil Young -- Southern Man
This is definitely a DH song; I'm not much of a Neil Young fan. The main attraction of this song is that now I know what Lynard Skynard was talking about in "Sweet Home Alabama." Doesn't seem all that bad to me...

8. The Beastie Boys -- Sure Shot
From, "Ill Communication," the second Beastie Boys album I ever bought. The first? "Licensed to Ill," of course. On *vinyl!*

9. Wyclef Jean -- Anything Can Happen
Man, this really *is* turning into a trip down memory lane, innit? I *loved* this CD as well in its day, and this is one of the better songs on it.

10. Elvis Presley -- Viva Las Vegas
Two Elvises for the price of one FRT! Not necessarily ending on a bang this week, but FYI, I did snag this one from Napster (or wherever) after ZZ Top (I believe) released their remake a few years ago. Viva!

I get the weirdest wrong numbers

I just got a call on my cell phone from a guy who was trying to set up a conference call with some executive(s) from Cisco Systems. Weird, huh?

Tuesday, May 09, 2006

That's bad, right?

I've been at work for exactly one hour and I've gotten absolutely nothing done.

Hey kids, it's the Friday Random 10!

1. Foo Fighters -- Times Like These
I've always had a soft spot in my head for Dave Grohl, since his Nirvana days. I also saw the Foo Fighters in San Francisco at the Tibetan Freedom Concert many years ago. With all that being said, I'm not a huge FF fan, but I do like this song.

2. Mark Snow -- X-Files Theme
Yep, that's exactly what it is. There's not to much you can say about that.

3. Jay-Z -- Hardknock Life
Remember the mid-90s, when no one knew who Jay-Z was? Well, I do.

4. Bright Eyes -- Lover I Don't Have to Love
I like this song, but it's pretty intense and depressing. Definitely *not* the feel good hit of the summer.

5. Bob Schneider -- Big Blue Sea
Famous mostly for once dating Sandra Bullock, Bob Schneider is terribly underrated. He's like Jack Johnson if JJ was actually good.

6. The Verve Pipe -- Hero
Another good song from the VP.

7. Edwyn Collins -- A Girl Like You
This is a great song.

8. The Appleseed Cast -- Fight Song
One of the many random songs on one of the many random CMJ discs I have. Eh. It's emo.

9. Average White Band -- Cut the Cake
AWB is most famous for "Pick up the Pieces," a song that sounds suspiciously like this one.

10. The Fugees -- Ready or Not
I've never been a big Fugees fan, either. That damn "Killing Me Softly" song could send me from the room screaming. But this song? This one I like.
