The 'No Respect, No Respect' Friday Random Ten
It's been a long time, I know, but here you are:
1. Nelly Furtado -- Turn off the Light
I got nothin'
2. Big Audio Dynamite -- Rush
BAD don't get much respect, but I like them. And this song.
3. Hole -- Awful
Speaking of no respect, Courtney Love can/could write a decent post-punk song when the muse struck. This song was one of her last bids for pop stardom (and relevance), but it's still a pretty good song, IMHO.
4. Shelby Lynne -- Why Can't You Be?
I really liked this CD ("I am Shelby Lynne") when I first got it. It was new and not my usual type of music at all. The novelty has worn off for the most part, but the songs *are* pretty good.
5. The Afghan Whigs -- Be Sweet
I bought this CD (many years ago) on the strength of two songs. I was pretty underwhelmed with the rest of the CD, but those two songs more than make up for the rest of them. This, unfortunately is neither of those songs. This one is just okay.
6. Big Boi/Oukast -- Intro
This is the 1 minute, 29 second intro to "Speakerboxxx" that I absolutely love.
7. Superdrag -- Do the Vampire
A CMJ refugee (from 1998!). I have tons of songs from CMJ discs that I'm indifferent about but I feel I should keep so as not to break up the set. This is one of them.
8. S.E.T. -- Dodge the Dodo
Set the way back machine to CMJ, 1997. I don't even *remember* this song; apparently it's some kind of jazz/fusion/instrumental-type thing (see above). Eh.
9. Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation -- Shine it All Around
Ever since I first heard "In the Mood" all those many years ago, I've always held, in some deep, dark, tiny part of my soul, a soft spot for Robert Plant.
10. Big Audio Dynamite -- V Thirteen
Okay, remember how I said how I liked BAD and how they were all underrated and stuff? Well, not this song. This song kind of sucks.
