Is it wrong

That I'm so excited about The Strokes' new album?

I simply loved their first big one, "Is This It." I was decidedly underwhelmed by their second one, "Room on Fire." I'm willing to give this next another chance, though, since ITI was so good. I hope I'm not disappointed. I am literally counting the days...

I'm an Enigma

Shadow
Your element is Shadow: Indifferent, unusual,
gentle and a complete mystery. No one tends to
know quite what to think of you because you
camouflage your emotions so incredibly well,
almost as well as your thoughts. You are
unpredictable in that no one knows exactly what
your going to do or what your capable of and
you've made sure they never will. You are quite
the wallflower but deep down inside is a kind
and very intelligent person. You are capable of
love but unless you let some light into your
shadowed life you'll have a hard time with your
relationships. People are a mystery only
because they all seem too superficial, you
would rather be somewhere else. Away from all
the noise, perhaps putting your feelings into a
form of art. Such as writing your feelings into
a poem or journal, or perhaps painting a
picture. The shadows make you feel comfortable
and you don't like to step outside your comfort
zone or let anyone else in, the spotlight
terrifies you. You are truly a mystery.

Hilarious

Isn't it funny how, when you're at work, all you can dream about are the things you'd rather be doing? And how you can't wait to do all this cool stuff when you have time off?

But then, when you actually get time off, you don't ever really do any of that cool stuff? In fact you actually just sit around and watch TV all day and don't do anything really constructive. And then when your time off is about up and it's almost time to go back to work, you feel really lame and stupid 'cuz you just wasted a bunch of time?**

Yep, hilarious

**Tho I can't say it was an entire waste of time because the DH did get me Soul Calibur 3 for our anniversary and I played it, like, all day Saturday and it was pretty cool. And Sunday we spent the day with my (ex-) stepmom and my little brother and sister and that was a lot of fun. I really only mean I wasted today. I spent all day doing my hair and watching many a TiVo'd "Law and Order." I didn't even get to play video games...

The art of doing nothing

Isn't it funny that the less you do all day, the less you want to do?

I went to work this morning and after that I pretty much goofed off all day. I mean, I played video games and everything, but basically did nothing.

And now I'm goofing off on the computer because my thumbs hurt from playing video games too much...

The 'I'm Not Really a Fan' Friday Random 10

I missed it completely last week, so here it goes again...

1. Nick Drake -- Pink Moon
A Volkswagen commercial and Napster. 'nuff said.

2. Sheryl Crow -- Steve McQueen
I'm not a gigantic SC fan, but I do really like this song.

3. Shelby Lynne -- Life is Bad
My MP3 player identifies this album, "I am Shelby Lynne," as 'contemporary country.' I'm probably the last person in the world who would like any musical genre that could be described as 'country' in any way, shape or form, but this album gets high marks in my book.

4. Dinosaur Jr. -- Goin' Blind
This is another one of those songs I downloaded specifically 'cuz it was free; this may be an audiogalaxy remnant. I was looking for *another* Dino Jr. song that I can't remember the name of. I never found it; this isn't it.

5. Nikka Costa -- Like a Feather
I remember in the video she was wearing this crazy sequin top. It literally looked like a handkerchief draped over her chest. I still don't understand how she jumped around like crazy in the video and the thing didn't just fly off...

6. Dido -- White Flag
I am not, not, not a Dido fan. This song is okay. It was part of that month's CMJ disc.

7. Bruce Springsteen -- Tunnel of Love
I'm somthing of a fair weather Springsteen fan. He's alright. I've liked this song for years, though.

8. The Beta Band -- Squares
Are there many songs out there better than this one? I don't think so.

9. Red Hot Chili Peppers -- Scar Tissue
Unfortunately, this RHCP song has a very short shelf life. I remember my younger brother and sister and I watching MTV and trying to figure out what the hell he was saying about birds in the chorus...

10. Sean Paul -- International Affair
I've stated earlier my feelings for Sean Paul. This song isn't really going to change my mind. eh

Freezing

It is currently 25 degrees outside. 25 friggin' degrees!

Texas winters always take me by surprise. The summers are *so* hot and the rest of the seasons so short and/or nonexistent, that I never really expect it to get cold. Even after living here for 5 1/2 years, I still don't think it's *really* going to get cold -- until it does.

The very worst part of winter here is the freezing freaking rain. Snow, I can take, but ice from the sky? No thanks! People around here can't drive in the rain, for crying out loud. Add in frozen streets and very little street clearing and you have a recipe for disaster -- or at least 2-hour commutes.

It's supposed to be especially crappy tomorrow -- I can only hope not. If I deign *not* to kill myself on icy roads (see above) and skip work tomorrow, I don't get paid. What I get if I *do* kill myself on the way to work, I don't know.

Oddly Enough

I am extremely calm and un-stressed out, considering I have a major paper due in my Political Communication class in less than a week. Did I mention I haven't started writing it at all, barely have a topic and only a fair amount of research material?

Usually, I let my stress level determine how hard I should be working, but it seems to have abandonded me this go round. Oh, well. I'll get the paper done, I guess. It just may not be up to my usual standards...

The 'Saturday Afternoon' Friday Random 10

I've been meaning to start doing this whole 'Friday Random 10' thing since I got an MP3 player, but I always forget, so I'm going to do it today while I'm thinking of it.

1. Spoon -- They never got you
I bought this album, "Gimmie Fiction," largely because of the "I Turn my Camera on" single. I was initially underwhelmed with the album, but it's growing on me.

2. Gorillaz -- Fire Coming out of the Monkey's Head
This is the weakest song on the album, I think. That's not such a bad thing considering I think the entire album is pretty effing awesome, but there you have it.

3. Cake -- Shadow Stabbing
The DH loves Cake. I think they're alright. They have some really good songs and some mediocre ones. This one always reminds me of that 'Orange County' movie with Jack Black.

4. Elvis Costello and The Attractions -- Good Year for the Roses
One of my least favorite EC songs, but oh well.

5. The Strokes -- Hard to Explain
This was the song that convinced me to buy the album. Did I mention that I love the album? Well, I do.

6. Bassment Jaxx -- Get Me Off
I bought the album on the strength of "Romeo" and "Where's Your Head At." The rest of the album is okay, a lot more 'Friday Night at the 18 and up club' than I expected. This is one of the few songs I can tolerate.

7. Elvis Costello and the Attractions -- Girls Talk
Hey a double shot of EC (I swear it's totally random). This is one of my favorite songs of his.

8. Sean Paul -- Shake That Thing
I really only bought this album for a couple of songs (you know the ones). I haven't really gotten that deep into it. On first listen, this song is just okay.

9. Sheryl Crow -- On the Outside
From the X-Files TV soundtrack. I usually don't cotton to TV soundtracks, but this one is actually pretty good. Once again, one of the weaker tracks on the album.

10. Meat Beat Manifesto - Prime Audio Soup
As a testament to how earth shattering "The Matrix" movie was, I went out and bought the soundtrack the day after seeing the movie without knowing any song on the album. For my cheap behind, that is saying something. I almost never buy CDs on faith. This is not one of the better songs on the album, tho.

Yay, my first Random 10! In retrospect, I probably should have named it the 'My Least Favorite Songs on the Album' list.
